Preparing for Your Release of Information PPE

As you read, think about HIM as a career and what steps you would need to take to achieve your goal. Many emerging professionals find themselves working in release of information (ROI) as a first entry-level position. This module will expose you to ROI and how you can best prepare.

What can you expect as a new ROI specialist on the job? What kinds of questions will you possibly be asked on the RHIT exam? How can you find just the right job that may lead to advancement. With the advent of the EHR and changes in how we view services provided to minors, access, use, and disclosure have become very complex. It is easy to be rushed and make an error when releasing information...and once it is released, we can report and take precautions but the information will always be available somewhere to someone.

With the EHR, we are seeing more and more staff sent home to work remotely. Each institution has a policy for how remote staff will interact with the remainder of the department. Some facilities allow a greater degree of flexibility while others adhere to circumscribed hours due to collective bargaining agreements. Training staff is often an issue with some facilities flying staff back periodically for an in-service.
