Canvas Student Support Your Canvas Settings

Overview

Canvas works better for you if you set it up the way you want. In this activity, you are going to add a photo to your Canvas and learn how to change the way that Canvas contacts you.

Add a Photo

You can add a photo to your Canvas account. When you add a photo, your Discussion posts and Inbox messages will include your photo. This makes the class feel more like a community.

Here are the instructions for how to add a photo.

On a Computer

Click Account in the top left corner. Then click Profile.

Click the pencil tool to edit.

Select a Profile Picture. You can choose to:

Upload a picture from your computer.

Select a profile picture

1. 1. Click Upload a Picture.
  2. Click choose a picture to find a picture on your computer.
  3. Click Save.
    
    OR:

Take a Picture with your computer camera:

1. 1. Click Take a Picture.
  2. Click Take Picture.
  3. Click Save.

On a Cell Phone

Add a photo cell phone choose take a pic or photo

Go to your Canvas main page (Landing page or Dashboard).
Press the Account icon (3 lines) in the top left corner.
Press the picture in the top left corner.
Press Take Photo to take a new photo with your phone.
OR press Choose Photo to choose a photo that you already have on your phone.

Add Your Personal Pronoun & Set Notifications

It is also good to add your personal pronoun and set notifications in Canvas.

Add Your Personal Pronoun

You can select personal pronouns to add to your Canvas account. Personal pronouns appear after your name in different areas in Canvas.

Set Your Notifications

Click the keyboard icon between the audio and gear icons. Then click Toggle Captions On.

How do you want Canvas to contact you?

Canvas uses your CCSF Gmail Links to an external site. account. However, you can add another email

Then, you can make this the default email address

Links to an external site. (the email that Canvas always uses to send you messages and announcements).

If you want to receive messages and notifications by text (SMS), you can also add a phone number for receiving texts in Canvas.Links to an external site.
