Translate English to Other Languages

You can translate text in your Canvas courses or on the CCSF website by using special tools:

Select Language (on the CCSF website)
Immersive Reader (in the Canvas courses)

Select Language

On the CCSF website, you can change the content on pages to other languages using Select Language.

Go to the CCSF website www.ccsf.edu.

Click Select Language.

Click on the language you want. The website will now be in the language you chose.

Immersive Reader

In your Canvas courses, you can translate English on any Content page and Assignment (not a Quiz or Discussion) by using the Immersive Reader.

How to use the Immersive Reader

Click on the panels below to open instructions on how to use the Immersive Reader.

How to Use the Immersive Reader

Find the Immersive Reader button at the top right.
In Text Preferences icon:

- Click and drag the Text Size slider to the font size you want.
- Choose font, color and style options.
- Turn on/off Increase Spacing.

In Grammar Options:

- Toggle on Syllables to divided words into syllables.
- Toggle on the different parts of speech to highlight (by color) them in the text.

In Reading Preferences:

- Click Picture Dictionary to see pictures of words that are able to be conveyed in images.
- Under Translate, click the Choose a language drop-down menu and select the language you want to translate to.
- Click By word to open up a small window with both the pronunciation and translation. To hear the pronunciation, click on the word next to the sound icon.
- Click Document to see the entire document translated.
- Click the Play button to hear the whole page read aloud.

When you have finished, click the back exit arrow.

Click on the play button to play the video.
Click on the keyboard icon between the audio and gear icons to Toggle Captions On.
Click the double arrow icon to the right of the gear icon to use Full Screen.
