Overview

We know teaching and engaging people on Zoom is not natural to us. We have compiled several resources for helping you to keep equity in mind as well as leverage interactivity in your Zoom sessions.

Students want engaging learning environments and we can provide that with some Zoom Pedagogy!

Scheduling Logistics

Can instructors require live online sessions? Yes, but the live online sessions must appear in the class schedule at the point of registration. Work with your department chair and refer to the DEA for your class.

Instructors can make live online sessions optional at any point in the semester without needing to put these sessions in the class schedule.

Can all course material be delivered in live online sessions? Do I even need content on Canvas? No, we do not recommend 100% live online classes. Students still need asynchronous content such as recorded videos, readings, and assignments. You still need to develop content on Canvas.

Why Live Online Sessions?

Instructors and students get real-time feedback.
Interactive tools such as polling, chat, and external apps can create different forms of student-to-student engagement.
Real-time teaching can reach different types of students who need more frequent interaction with their peers and instructor.
Live online sessions involve rich forms of communication with cameras and audio.
