Techniques leading to a creative treatment of landscape photography using film or digital media. Illustrated lectures of important historical and contemporary image-makers. Emphasis on photographic field-work, interpretive lighting, design, camera technique, post production processing and filtration to support personal vision and conceptual ideas.

Student Learning Objectives

After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Outcome 1: Demonstrate in oral and written form, analysis, and comparison of historical and contemporary landscape photographers.
Outcome 2: Create a portfolio of landscape photographs that illustrate integration of visual design elements and conceptual ideas.
Outcome 3: Apply photographic techniques necessary in production of expressive landscape imagery including depth of field, motion, filters, and appropriate post production techniques.
Outcome 4: Demonstrate ability to evaluate a variety of lighting situations with respect to landscape photography.
Outcome 5: Evaluate success of peers' ability to photographically problem-solve each assignment.

For Adding the Class

Use Web4 to enroll in the class.
If no space is available, use Web4 to put yourself on the Waitlist. If space
becomes available, you will be notified via your CCSF email that you may enroll.
If the Waitlist is full, you will have to add yourself to the class after the start date.

For Adding the Class After the Start Date:

At this point, you will need to use the Class Request option on the class schedule. Use the CRN to request a class.
There is no guarantee that a request will be granted. First priority goes to the students on the Wait List. But I add over my cap.

Dropping the Class:

You are encourages to drop the class on your own if you realize you cannot take the class. This allows other students to sign up.
The instructor reserves the right to drop students who do not demonstrate academic contribution during the first seven days of the course. An academic contribution is generally in the form of a discussion or turning in an assignment.
If you do not contribute academic work at least once every seven days, the instructor reserves the right to drop you.

It is the students responsibility to be aware of drop dates throughout the semester. In the CCSF Academic Calendar, you will find the last day to drop with a full refund, as well as the last days to drop with and without a W on your academic record. It is the students responsibility to drop the class in these circumstances.

Assignments

Note: The assignments shown here may change in your particular class. However, this is the workload you should expect.

One Abstract Landscape assignment.
- This assignment requires one abstract landscape image.
- Assignment will be critiqued in class in small groups using various active critique strategies.
- 20 points.
Two Work-in-Progress critiques for Final Project
500-word Essay on one landscape photographer.
- Specific pre-assigned questions must be addresses.
- 20 points
Final Proposal Discussion in Canvas.
- 1 Discussion.
- 10 points.
- Required replies to classmates.
Final Project on a specific landscape theme.
- A minimum of 4 prints due.
- 100 points.
