Course Information

This course is an introduction to the wonderful world of psychology. It covers the scientific approach to the study of behavior, sensory systems, learning memory, life-span development, motivation, emotion, personality theories, social psychology, and psychotherapy.

Students are expected to check their school email and Canvas inbox on a regular basis throughout the week.  Assignments and Announcements will be posted regularly.  Modules will be posted each week with detailed information to ensure student success and open communication between student and instructor.  Students can expect to devote approximately 9 hours per week to this course.  For additional guidelines on how to interact with your instructor and peers in an online learning environment, please review the online student resource guides. The instructor will provide feedback on all submitted assignments within 7 days.  The instructor will post a rubric for each assignment and notify any changes to coursework via Announcements or Canvas.  You may contact me via Canvas Inbox.  I will respond to your messages within 48 hours, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. 

This is a fully online course.  As such, students should verify computer software and hardware requirements to ensure coursework can be successfully submitted successfully.  All assignments are to be submitted via Canvas (unless otherwise noted).  Please download the Canvas app to your mobile device/tablet.

Students should demonstrate competence using a word-processing program (i.e. MS Word) to type, revise, and edit coursework, using Canvas to upload assignments and file attachments and navigating electronic library/internet databases.

If you decide to discontinue this course, it is your responsibility to officially drop it to avoid getting no refund (after 10% of course length), a W symbol (after 20%), or a grade (after 60%). Also, the instructor may drop a student for several consecutive, unexplained absences. 

Students who do not log in to class after the second week and/or fail to participate in a learning activity after the second week of class will be dropped from the class. If you need to miss more than one class/homework deadline in a row, you should contact me to avoid being dropped from the class.

All assignments are due at 11:59 p.m. PST on the due date. Late submissions will receive a 20% penalty. Submissions more than one week late are not accepted without prior arrangement.

BUT, Life HAPPENS... If there is something that has occurred that is temporarily impacting your success, let's discuss it.

 

Important Dates

Important dates:  There will be be TWO synchronous class meetings dates during the semester.  One will be two weeks prior to the midterm and the second will be two weeks prior to the final exam.  Dates will be determined as the semester progresses.  We will meet to answer questions, discuss assignments and plan next steps.
