End-of-Semester Tests

The End-of-Semester Assessments were designed to assess four skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The assessments for listening, reading, and writing should be administered in one class session, while the assessment for speaking can be delivered in the next class session or two, depending on the class size.

Each test has instructions preceding the test. Reading the instructions before opening a test will prepare students for the material without cutting into test-taking time.

The Writing Test and Speaking Test are administered by the instructor of the class. Students do not add any responses to the Speaking Test. There is not a team to review students’ writing submissions and speaking reponses.

Time Limits

The Speaking, Reading, and Writing assessments have specific time limits saved in the class settings. Please maintain these time settings for all students. If a student has a DSPS approved accommodation related to test time limit, add additional time for the individual student in the Moderate function after the test has been added to your Modules.

Advise students that to complete the test in the allotted time for the test the audio can only be played without modifications. If students stop, rewind, or adjust the speed of the audio, they will not have enough time to complete the assessment.

Listening, 18 minutes, recording of 15:51 minutes
Reading, 30 minutes
Writing, 35 minutes, respond to one prompt
Speaking, varies by student need

Scoring

Canvas quizzes grade students' work in the Listening and Speaking Tests. Writing and Speaking Tests are scored by the instructor. Please refer to the test rubrics to score students’ test performance.

Students will not be able to review their responses after the tests.
