Course Information

ICD-10-Procedure Coding System (PCS) instructs students in the process of building codes in the procedure coding system. Instruction includes review of the structure, design, code format, and official ICD-10-PCS coding guidelines. Emphasis on coding concepts unique to ICD-10-PCS, systematic review of root operations, as well as use of computerized encoder and grouper. Students will learn to apply both ICD-10-CM/PCS diagnoses and procedures on various case studies.

Technology Requirement

Learning Management System Requirement: Since this is an online course, students are required to access Canvas frequently in order to view and complete discussion posts, chapter assignments, and quizzes.

Internet Requirement: Students need to secure reliable access to the internet in order to complete assessments on Canvas. CCSF provides students with free computer use on campus and free WiFi. For more information, visit the Technology page.

There are no in-person class meetings, however, there are live Zoom meetings on specific Mondays or Wednesdays (to be announced) when you will work in small groups to discuss and code exercises and case studies. There is no midterm exam, but a final exam must be taken as scheduled.

If you do not engage in the first week of class and complete the orientation module by the due dates, or subsequently if you have not submitted any work for more than one week without notifying me in advance, you may be dropped from the course. A student who is not in attendance at the second class meeting will be considered a "no show" and may be dropped from the course.
