Welcome to WELD140 - Manufacturing processes
This class is treated much like many STEM "Make" classes - you will be given tasks

TASKS: Such an inconspicuous word.
There are many obligations inferred in setting out to accomplish an assigned task.
You will be working in groups and solo to accomplish an outcome.

Here's the rub: Materials and machinery availability vary greatly from semester to semester. As such, there are almost-never 100% specific-to either available material or machinery instructions or handouts for your task-assigned project.
To this end you will need to take notes. Adequate notes. Lots of notes. Descriptive notes.
Did I say Note-taking is required for successful completion of most projects and many tasks?

Note-taking will be paramount - Much if not all of the current info revolving around your projects, the materials, group assignment et al will be disbursed on a chalkboard, during "chalk-talk" sessions,
~ These sessions are not recorded and the chalkboard is rarely recounted on Canvas.

Simply:
TAKE NOTES IN CLASS - especially specifications presented on the chalk-board.
(no - notebooks are not graded, but if you don't take notes the projects won't be easy, and the projects will be graded)

A note on taking notes using phones: Pictures are great, better if you reverse the image color - letters to black background to grey, for print - then print. If you want to use your phone at a work-station, get an Otterbox or equivalent bomb-proofing method of protection, the shop is full of hard/shar[p/chemically-upsetting things that phones are not fond of.
...but phone note-taking is OK, it's your phone.
