Text Guided Learning Activity on Annotation
Guided Learning Activities (GLAs) are offered through the Reading and Writing Center and give students a brief introduction to various reading and writing skills. Many GLAs include brief quizzes to help students process the material. When I assign a GLA, I'd like you to take the embedded quizzes for your own learning, but I will not see the results, so don't worry about your score.
The last activity in most GLAs is a final reflection on what you have learned. You will not complete the reflection exercise that is at the end of each GLA. Those scores do not get sent to me, so I have no way to access your answers. Instead, please return here to fill out the answers in this check-in quiz so that I can see your responses and give you credit. Once you have answered the two questions, you are done with the GLA and will receive credit for completing it. This assignment may be turned in late with no points taken off until the "available until" date that is posted here (usually one week after the due date). After the GLA closes, though, it can't be reopened, so please keep track of due dates and "available until" dates for all GLAs. If you need a refresher on how to toggle between the GLA and the reflection questions in our class, go back one page in this module and view the video I posted.
The GLA activity in this module focuses on how to annotate a textbook, academic article, or anything else you need to read actively in college. Annotation is an academic word for engaging with what you read through taking notes, asking questions, and drawing connections to other material you are learning.
