In this unit you will read the Chapters 2 and 3 of the book:The DREAMers: How the Undocumented Youth Movement Transformed the Immigrant Rights Debate, by Walter Nicholls. The Dreamers examine the immigrations debates since the 1990s and the current struggle for legalization that undocumented immigrants have been waging since 2000. In particular it explores the struggle for legalization for the undocumented youth and how they emerged from a marginal group within the immigrant rights movement to a leading player in the struggle for the legalization of the 11 million undocumented immigrants that live in the U.S.

After successful completing of this unit, you will be able to:

Explain the reasons why the DREAMers were created by the immigrant Rights movement.
Analyze the way that DREAMers learned to be advocates for themselves and their communities
Discuss the reasons why the DREAMers broke away from the greater Immigrants Rights movement.
