Course Syllabus
Welcome to Academic Reading and Writing
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Outcome 1: Determine the meaning of words and phrases. Use grammar properly.
Outcome 2: Memorize and use new vocabulary words.
Outcome 3: Identify and infer the main idea and major/minor supporting details of multi-paragraph texts.
Outcome 4: Identify transitional words and classify patterns of organization
Outcome 5: Produce writing such as free writes and short essays.
MATERIALS NEEDED
Paper, something to write with, the book that we will be using and a binder or folder for this class.
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
If you are absent work cannot be made-up. Evening school is a condensed course on your 3 absence you will be dropped.
GWHS BRING YOUR OWN TECHNOLOGY (BYOT) GUIDELINES
No cell phones during class. Don’t let a device whose priority is to keep you attached to the device by triggering your dopamine receptors rob you from your education.
Lost, Stolen, or Damaged Devices:
Each user is responsible for his/her own device and should use it responsibly and appropriately. George Washington High School takes no responsibility for stolen, lost, or damaged devices, including lost or corrupted data on those devices. Students are expected to acknowledge and take the final responsibility for securing their personal devices.
