Module 8 Overview

Overview - The Progressive Era

In this module, students will examine the goals of the Progressive Era that emerged at the beginning of the 20th century. We will explore the grassroots movements that demanded systematic change as well as the quests for equality by women and African Americans.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

Explain the main features of Progressivism
Identify specific examples of grassroots Progressivism relating to the spread of democracy, efficiency in government, and social justice
Understand the origins and growth of the women’s rights movement
Identify the different strands of the early African American civil rights movement

Week One

Read content pages 8.1 and 8.2, including annotating and completing the review challenges
Contribute twice to the Discussion on the Progressivist influence (8.3)
Submit the Edpuzzle Video Activity (8.4)

Week Two

Read content page 8.5, including annotating and completing the review challenges
Contribute twice to the Discussion on W.E.B. Dubois and Booker T. Washington (8.6)
Submit the Edpuzzle Video Activity (8.7)
