Welcome!

This syllabus contains all the information you will need to be successful in this class.  Students will gain an understanding of trauma in our lives and its affects.  We will explore issues affecting health, outcomes, and healing.

After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1: Analyze and discuss the definitions of trauma, traumatic events, and common responses to witnessing or surviving trauma.

2: Explain common approaches to promoting recovery from trauma, and identify local resources and services for survivors

Student Expectations:

  • Attend class on time and return from Zoom breaks on time
    • This class is designed so that you MUST attend both sessions.  No absences are allowed because of the length of our class.  We will accommodate those that have conflicts with the designated time via a recorded session.
  • Complete all assigned work.  No exceptions or late work.
  • Participate actively and respectfully.  Comment on material presented.
  • Pass your final at the end of our class!   That's it!

To students who are into justice, health, well-being and of great intentions of social service to all, I wholeheartedly welcome you.  As students we will review definitions of trauma, identify common traumatic events and analyze the ways in which trauma experiences affect the health of survivors. Students will discuss diverse approaches to recovering from traumatic events.

There are no book requirements.  I will post information and/or articles pertinent to our class.  Some will be for your knowledge, and other information that is a MUST read which will be in the Assignment section on canvas.  Much of the literature has not been written regarding this traumatic and unprecedented time we are still living in.  It is my hope that we all have something positive to learn from each other as we melt our way out towards the light of after-the-pandemic.

If you have a learning disability or need special accommodations because of a disability, please contact the Disabled Student Program and Services (DSPS) at 452-5481.  Also, privately let me know how to assist you by sending me an email.  My email is iMcCray@ccsf.edu.
