Course Requirements:
Attendance:
Attendance is required for this course. The Department of Behavioral Sciences policy allows for up to 6 hours of absences. If you miss more than this, you can be dropped from class. If you are having issues attending class, please meet with me before it is an issue. To clarify, you are not graded on attendance, but may be dropped if you miss too many class periods.
Reading:
Each week you are responsible for reading the assigned chapter(s). You are responsible for knowing the content for assignments even if it is not covered during class times.
Writing Assignments:
There are two, 1 page writing assignments/reflection papers due throughout the course before the exams. These are assigned to give you an opportunity to reflect on the content of the course and showcase your understanding of the material. 5 points are deducted for each day a writing assignment is late.
Discussion Board:
The class will be divided into small groups and participate in an online discussion after the writing assignments. This discussion is an opportunity to share and discuss with your classmates the themes, questions, and ideas that came up from the writing assignment. You will be required to do one initial post and one reply to a classmate.
Quizzes:
There will be a brief reading quiz each week due before class on Tuesday. The quizzes are online and cover the assigned reading for that week. These quizzes are a combination of multiple choice questions and a short answer question that will require you to develop a discussion question for class on the content covered in the week’s readings. Quizzes will become available to you on Thursday after class and will close on Tuesday before class. So, you will have over 4 days to complete the quizzes. Please plan ahead and know when is a good time to take the quiz is for you. No late quizzes or redo’s are accepted.
Exams:
There are 2 online exams consisting of multiple choice, short answer, and essay questions. Exams will be open for one week.
Note: Assignments, including quizzes and exams, must be completed alone; doing the quizzes or exams with another student(s) is NOT ALLOWED. Sharing of content on the exams or quizzes with other students is considered cheating and all parties involved will receive an automatic failure in the class.
Extra Credit:
You can earn a total of 20 points of extra credit throughout the semester. In any given week in which there is an assigned quiz, write and submit an extra discussion question worth 10 points. You can do this a maximum of 2 times. This must be at least two paragraphs, summarizing the content and context of the question, followed by the discussion question. The discussion question MUST be thoughtful, critical, and well-written. Examples of good discussion questions will be provided as a guideline. These should be brought to class and submitted at the start of class on Tuesdays.
Late Policy:
All assignments have a specific date and time that they are due. Please keep track of what assignment is due when. No late quizzes or exams are accepted without verification of an emergency reason. “Computer crashing” or other technological issues are not considered emergencies.

An “F” grade indicates that a student attended, participated, and completed the course but failed to master the course curriculum.
An “FW” grade indicates the student stopped attending a course after the “last day to withdraw” deadline and subsequently did not submit any work or participate in any exams. Please check with your counselor and financial aid advisor for possible implications of the FW grade on residency and financial aid status.
Accommodations:
If you need classroom or testing accommodations because of a disability, or have emergency medical information to share with me, or need special arrangements in case the building needs to be evacuated, please make an appointment with me as soon as possible. My office hours are listed above.
Students seeking disability-related accommodations are encouraged to also register with
Disabled Students Programs and Services located in Room 323 of the Rosenberg Library (415) 452-5481. Please see the DSPS website for more information and alternate locations.
Standards of Conduct
Students who register in CCSF classes are required to abide by the CCSF Student Code of Conduct. Violation of the code is a basis for referral to the Student Conduct Coordinator or dismissal from class or the College. See the Office of Student Affairs. Collaborating on or copying of tests or homework in whole or in part will be considered an act of academic dishonesty and result in a grade of 0 for that test or assignment. I encourage students to share information and ideas, but not their work.
