CRN 70822 Public Safety- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

Course Information

The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) provides emergency pre-hospital assessment and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Areas of study will include an introduction to emergency medical services systems, roles, and responsibilities of EMR’s, anatomy and physiology, medical & trauma emergencies, and special considerations for working in the prehospital setting. EMR’s have limited equipment, but training and maintaining medical skills can save a life!

Dropping the Class

If you decide to discontinue this course, it is your responsibility to officially drop it to avoid getting no refund (after 10% of the course length), a W symbol (after 20%), or a grade (after 60%). Also, the instructor may drop a student for several consecutive, unexplained absences.

(Failure to meet any of the three (3) requirements listed below will result in the student being dropped from the class).

All students are required to attend the in-person class orientation on the first Wednesday of the new semester unless excused by an instructor prior to class.
All students are required to submit an initial discussion post on CANVAS prior to day seven (7) of class, (midnight of the Tuesday before the second Wednesday of the semester).
All students are required to complete the first three (3) chapter quizzes on CANVAS prior to the last day for withdrawal listed on the CCSF Instructional Calendar

Important Dates

This is a 16-week hybrid class, you will have live skill sessions (listed below) along with asynchronous chapter lectures on the CCSF computer learning platform CANVAS.

Hybrid W 11:10-14:15 PM Room 222 Batmale Hall, Ocean Ave. Campus, City College of San Francisco (CCSF).

Live class meeting schedule, includes live orientation, midterm, & final exam. Subjects listed may be changed at the discretion of the Instructor.

Oct. 9 - Midterm (CPR) Practice

Oct. 16 - Midterm (CPR) Testing

Oct. 30 - Airway

Nov. 20 - Splints, Assessments

Nov. 27 - No class, Thanksgiving Holiday

Dec. 4 - Assessments & final practice

Dec. 11 - Final testing

Our class meets on CityZoom on the Wednesday not listed above.
