Dropping Policy
The Health Information Technology and Medical Assisting Programs follow the CCSF official attendance policies. (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.) While one can generally continue an online course from any location, you may have a planned absence where communication may be difficult. Please notify your instructor so we can consider options. I would not want to drop you from the course by mistake. Your success in this course is very important to me.
“No-Shows”: Students are required to attend the lecture portion of the class. Lab may be completed in your own. However, it is the student’s responsibility to log on to the course site at least once a week. Students who do not log in and complete the orientation assignments before the close of the first week of class will be dropped from the course.
“Withdrawn” Students who were actively engaged in the course and abruptly stop logging on or submitting work will be contacted by the instructor through at least two avenues (CCSF email and canvas in-box at a minimum). If you are facing challenges that may be preventing you from progressing in the course, your instructor may be able to offer suggestions that will support your success. Students who do not respond to the instructor’s contact within seven days of that contact will be dropped from the course.
Pass‐NoPass (P/NP)
You must file for the P/NP option by date listed above. Once you decide to go for P/NP, you cannot change back to a letter grade. If you are taking this course as part of a certificate program, you can probably still take the class P/NP. Check with a counselor to be sure.
Attendance
Students who fail to attend the first class (face-to-face courses) or do not log-in to an online class after the second week and participate in a learning activity will be dropped from the class. It is strongly advised that if you need to miss more than one class/homework deadline in a row that you contact the instructor to avoid being dropped from the class.
Late Policy
One of the most important professional lessons in Health Information Technology is accountability. In this class as well as in a job, you may find that something occurs that prevents you from meeting an obligation. Contact your instructor as soon as possible to discuss the issue and prepare a plan for how you intend to meet your obligation. These extensions will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Absent any prearrangements with your instructor, there will be no credit for late submissions of any course deliverables (lessons, assignments, discussion forums and quizzes). Due dates for all course deliverables are posted in the Course Calendar. All assignments are accessible for at least one week. Quizzes are open for at least three days. Group projects are open for a longer period of time. There is ample opportunity to work around family, personal and work obligations and schedule the completion of an assignment when convenient.
All students are responsible for monitoring and adhering to the Course Calendar as posted unless prior arrangements have been made with and approved by the instructor. If you know or suspect a problem with timely submission; notify the instructor as soon as possible. Do not wait until days after the due date
As computer access problems can occur, do NOT wait until the last possible minute to take a quiz. All students should have a "back-up" computer plan in the event of hardware, software or technical difficulties unrelated to the CCSF system. The "back up" computer may be through another reliable source (for example. workplace, public library, and friends). Notifications about any CCSF system downtime will be posted in your announcements. Please be sure your cell number is registered to receive school alerts. Your cell number. if provided to the school, is automatically included unless you have opted out. Review the San Francisco Community College Campus District Police Department (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.) web site for more information.
Grading
Methods of Evaluation
Each week you will complete graded assignments. There is a Discussion, a Course Journal entry, and a Quiz each week. Quizzes may be taken three times. These assignments can be completed after reading the textbook assignments and the summaries in the content modules.
Exams
There will be online quizzes throughout the course and an online final exam. The material comes from the textbook, class lectures, and supplemental materials. If an exam is missed, a zero will be recorded as the score. It is your responsibility to take the online exams by the due date.
Grading Policy
Visit the “Grades” in Canvas to keep track of your grades. I grade [ ADD FREQUENCY HERE] and post grades and comments on the online Canvas gradebook.
How do I view my grades, teacher comments, and an assignment rubric as a student?
Grades will be assigned as follows:
Letter Grade | Points | Percent |
---|---|---|
A |
|
90% |
B |
|
80% |
C |
|
70% |
D |
|
60% |
F or FW |
|
<60% |
If taking Pass/No Pass, you need at least 70% of the total class points and complete the midterm exam and the final exam to pass the class.
An “F” grade indicates that a student attended, participated, and completed the course but failed to master the course curriculum.
Academic Accommodations for Students with Disabilities
If you need classroom or testing accommodations because of a disability, or have emergency medical information to share with me, or need special arrangements in case the building needs to be evacuated, please make an appointment with me as soon as possible. My office hours are by appointment either on the Ocean Campus (9-4 p.m., Monday through Friday) or by Zoom video-conferencing.
Students seeking disability-related accommodations are encouraged to also register with Disabled Students Programs and Services located in Room 323 of the Rosenberg Library (415) 452-5481. Please see the DSPS website for more information and alternate locations.
Standards of Conduct
Students who register in CCSF classes are required to abide by the CCSF Student Code of Conduct. Violation of the code is basis for referral to the Student Conduct Coordinator or dismissal from class or from the College. See the Office of Student Affairs.
Collaborating on or copying of tests or homework in whole or in part will be considered an act of academic dishonesty and result in a grade of 0 for that test or assignment. I encourage students to share information and ideas, but not their work. See these links on Plagiarism:
