Working Together

During the semester, you will participate in class discussion forums where you will analyze class contents, share your points of view, and apply important concepts learned during each week. Consequently, you will have plenty of opportunities to express your own views in relation to the topics under discussion.

Please, respect differences of opinions and be open minded about your classmates’ differing points of view. We can always learn something new from others!

Important Dates

  • Day Class Begins: Monday, January 30
  • Day Class Ends: May 25

Dropping the Class

Transitional Studies Department requires all online students to actively participate in the module activities (see attendance policy) to avoid being dropped from the course. If by the third week of the semester, you have not logged in and/or have not completed at least 70% of the week modules, you will be dropped from this course.

Note that if I do not hear from you in two consecutive weeks, you may be dropped from this class, pending on the instructor’s discretion.

Attendance

Please, keep in mind that, in an online course, attendance is measured by your participation in class activities, not by just logging in to the course. Also, your participation involves completing all or at least an 70% of the assigned activities, such as discussions, practice quizzes, and other assignments, in the week module.

Late Policy

An online course offers you great advantages, including flexibility and accessibility. However, managing your time is a paramount skill to succeed in an online learning environment. Thus, anticipate having to allocate regular time each day of the week to complete module activities successfully. Keep in mind that this course will take minimum 6 hrs. a week of work.

Due Dates

  • Check due dates provided in each assignment.

Late Work

  • Late submissions of discussion forums and writing assignments will be penalized with a two-point deduction of your total score. Thus, pay attention to the discussion due date.
  • Late submissions of practice quizzes and All-Content tests will not be penalized if they are submitted before their lock day, so pay attention to the date the tests will be closed.
  • Late submissions of unit exams and major exams, such as midterm and final exams are not allowed, except for students’ major life circumstances.

Note: Do not make a habit of turning assignments late because you will be only creating a bigger burden for you. 😊

  Grading

Methods of Evaluation

Each week, you will complete graded assignments such as discussions & practice quizzes.  All of these assignments should be completed after reading the week contents in each module, and all quizzes may be taken twice.

Exams

There will be an online midterm and a final exam based on material taken from the textbook, class lectures, and supplemental information. If you miss any exam, a zero will be recorded as the score. Note that it is your responsibility to take the online exams by the due date.

Grading Policy

Visit the “Grades” in Canvas to keep track of your grades. I will grade your assignments within 24/48 hours and will post grades and comments on the online Canvas gradebook.
