Course Communication
Instructor Contact
Robin Pugh
If you need to reach me:
- Preferred method of communication: Canvas Inbox. I will respond to these within 24-48 hours.
- If Canvas is down or before the course opens, my City College email is rpugh@ccsf.edu .
- Phone messages can be left at 415.267.6577 – only checked once a week during the semester. I will respond to voicemail within a week.
- I do not use Pronto for student communication. I am also not always able to monitor student replies to my comments on individual assignments, so please send any questions through the Canvas Inbox.
Communication Plan
Office hours:
- Online via CityZoom Tuesdays, 6-7 PM.
- Additional times via phone or CityZoom are available upon request.
If you have a general question about the course, please post it in the Q&A Forum on the course home page. This way you will get an answer to your question and help the other 2-3 students who probably have the same question you do. If you know the answer to someone’s question, please go ahead and answer it. I do monitor this forum and respond, but you may get a faster answer from a classmate.
In addition to the Q&A Forum, we may have additional discussions related to the topics for the week. I will read all your posts and respond to posts as needed to dive further into the topic, answer questions and clarify comments.
Your work will be reviewed and I will comment on it. Please note that you will receive private comments on your discussion posts and other individual assignments.
Class Philosophy
This class is a community. Although students may be taking this class for different reasons, we all have the same objective -- to learn! Online students often feel isolated but it's important to know you are not in this alone. I need each of you to approach our online class with a positive attitude and a willingness to help each other. You will be able to better apply the information you learn in this class if you have talked through issues and questions with fellow classmates in the class discussions.
Real estate is a people business, but also a business that uses a lot of technology, so think of creating relationships in this class as good practice for work in real estate. Many problems and questions can be resolved by asking a fellow student (The Q&A Forum is always there for this!) I am always here to help you but I truly believe your experience will be better if you communicate with your fellow students throughout the semester. Let's work together to make this semester great for everyone!
Instructor Announcements
The instructor will post announcements on the “Instructor Announcements” page in Canvas throughout the semester. Canvas notifies students according to their preferred Notification Preferences (Links to an external site.) as soon as the instructor creates an Announcement.
Q&A Forum and Student Lounge
- A “Q&A Forum” is located in Module 0. This forum is for you to ask for assistance of your classmates or of the instructor. This is a place to ask details about how to post something, when something is due, where to find something, etc.

Participation and Dropping the Class
Drop Policy and the need to participate
Because this class meets the pre-license course requirement for real estate agent or broker for the State of California, students must maintain consistent participation in the class to achieve the required number of hours and pass the class. Students who wish to drop the course should do so through MyRam and not rely on the instructor to drop them.
No-Show
A “no-show” is an enrolled student for whom there is no evidence of participation. By Sunday, September 3, if you have not participated in ALL the activities and assignments in Module 1, you will be considered a no-show and dropped from the class.
FW grade
A student that enrolls and submits assignments early in the class but doesn’t engage further throughout the course will receive an “FW.” Students who do not turn in any assignments for one or more modules do not meet the requirement for consistent participation and will receive an FW. Students who miss the midterm exam will receive an FW. Students who have missing assignments in two or more modules may be deemed to lack consistent participation and may also receive an FW.
Late Policy
We cover a lot of ground in this class, and keeping up with your reading and assignments is extremely important for your success. Please do your best to keep up; however, if you just can’t get it all done, please take my late work policy into account when deciding how and when to get your work done.
- Weekly assignments: These can be turned in up to a week late.
- Quizzes : These will be available to take over a week, but are typically available for two weeks after the deadline and can be taken late without a reduction in points.
- Exams : These will be available to take over a few days and must be taken by the deadline unless you make other arrangements with me before the deadline.
Grading
Methods of Evaluation
Each week you will complete graded assignments including quizzes, discussions, written/video/audio submissions and more.
Exams
There will be an online midterm and an online final exam. The material comes from the textbook, discussions and other course materials. If a student has a conflict, they must come up with a solution with the instructor BEFORE the exam. If any exam is missed, a zero will be recorded as the score. Make-ups are not available. It is your responsibility to take the online exams by the due date.
Grading Policy
Visit the “Grades” in Canvas to keep track of your grades. I grade assignments once a week and give individual comments.
How do I view my grades, teacher comments, and an assignment rubric as a student?
An “F” grade indicates that a student attended, participated and completed the course but failed to master the course curriculum.
An “FW” grade indicates the student stopped participating regularly in the course and did not drop the class. Please check with your counselor and financial aid adviser for possible implications of the FW grade on residency and financial aid status.
Academic Accommodations for Students with Disabilities
If you need classroom or testing accommodations because of a disability, or have emergency medical information to share with me, or need special arrangements in case the building needs to be evacuated, please make an appointment with me as soon as possible. My office hours are by appointment either by phone or Zoom video-conferencing.
Students seeking disability related accommodations are encouraged to also register with Disabled Students Programs and Services located in Room 323 of the Rosenberg Library (415) 452-5481. Please see the DSPS website for more information and alternate locations.
Standards of Conduct
Students who register in CCSF classes are required to abide by the CCSF Student Code of Conduct Violation of the code is basis for referral to the Student Conduct Coordinator or dismissal from class or from the College. See the Office of Student Affairs.
Collaborating on or copying of tests or homework in whole or in part will be considered an act of academic dishonesty and result in a grade of 0 for that test or assignment. I encourage students to share information and ideas, but not their work. See these links on Plagiarism:
